6LA8 – The Moderate Picture

6LA8 is out with their new album called The Moderate Picture. It is a very depressive and socially relevant take on music, post-rock in the vein of Mogwai and Crippled Black Phoenix, being the most obvious source of inspiration.  Nevertheless, this isn’t meant for everyone. Definitely not people with short attention spans. You really need to give it time to sink in or alternatively sit down with a nice book of your liking and have the music playing in the background. Highlights of the album: Drunkards & Soul, Celeplode, In Horror and The Moderate Picture.

6LA8 – In Wake of a Dying Nation

I don’t know if I am allowed to divulge their secret identities (Aus  Rine – Asadullah Qureshi) but 6LA8 is an infamous coven that operates out of Karachi, Pakistan. They are mostly known for their taveez ganda and only very few people know about the music they make. They just came out with their first album, In Wake of a Dying Nation.

I have this really rare medical condition and science seems to have given up on me so I decided I’d try my luck at the local peer baaba’s. The peer baaba messaged me on my Facebook and referred me to 6LA8. The music is fucking awesome. A Pakistani post-rock band!

Air Liner – Garden Cocoon

If you have been following Air Liner, you are kind of in the know about how Taha Badar has the habit of completely catching you off guard with every subsequent release. Garden Cocoon is definitely one of the more coherent instances of Pakistani music I have heard this year.  I am not giving you an estimate of the sound here. Figure it out yourself! This is legit!

Air Liner – Open Krounotic

Chances are, you don’t know about Air Liner. I wouldn’t too if it weren’t for Taimur Mazhar Sheikh who showed me this awesome band. I know I cannot paint the exact picture so I am not going to try too hard to describe what Open Krounotic sounds like. Maybe Tim Hecker, Collapse Under The Empire and Susumu Hirasawa had unnatural sex and the end-result is the multi-cephalic monstrosity that is Air Liner. “Avant-garde” should point you in the right direction. You don’t need to be a fan of experimental music to enjoy this. Great music!

Bigotry – Neurotic

00

My first exposure and undoubtedly, the first exposure of the readership of the blog to Bigotry, comes from the Midnight Heartbreak Sessions Split we Aus Rine guys did. Bigotry was fairly ambient at the time but music should stay evolving. Taimur Mazhar, my long standing band mate, is out with the official Bigotry album entitled Neurotic. The overall sound on the album is very hard to pigeonhole, really and if I had to pick a name, I would go with Grouper, Einsturzende Neubauten and the Psychic Paramount spliced together. I cannot be sure though because I have only heard one song yet. I think it would probably pay you to go ahead and check it out anyway. Just how many albums does the Pakistani Music Underground get to see the release of on average per year? VERY FEW! Go ahead and check it out. Support! By the way, expect a podcast soon.
