Black Warrant – Desi (2011 version)

aa

Pakistan Heavy Metal pioneers Black Warrant are out with a new track, which is a re-recording of their classic Punjabi Metal song ‘DESI.’ I’m actually enjoying this new one a lot more than the previous incarnation of the song. Check it out here.

Myosis – Champion’s of God’s Will

This is a Doom Metal project with a heavy stoner vibe going on throughout, but with a political bent to it and a vocal style not usually used in pure doom metal. Stoner Doomdeath? You decide. Anyway, these guys are from somewhere in Sindh (a friend’s project, and he’s asked for total anonymity.) Check this out, this is fucking badass. Great to see some fucking DOOM metal in Pakistan, finally.

The Lahore Underground (Documentary)

I have been meaning to put this on the Markhor for some time but whenever I tried, Ninjas would invade my tubes and subject them to the most horrible variety of buttsecks imaginable. I am not sure if it was just Ninjas. Anyway, I don’t know who is responsible for the video so I can’t credit him/her here. I could check but the afore-mentioned Ninjas have kind of indicated that they wouldn’t mind going at it again. Props to Hassan Umer for uploading the documentary.

The documentary takes you through how it all started in Lahore. There is a bit of everything going on and most of it is Metal. I think you should be able to conclude after watching that it was EP’s self-sucking that has brought the scene where it is today. Call and a few other bands followed suit and proceeded to engage in an Urdu fueled orgy of plagiarizing teh MTV metalz and claiming to be pioneers.

Reckoning Storm – Storm Engine (Free Download)

Reckoning Storm, a Karachi based instrumental outfit headed by Saad Akhtar Ali (of Communal Grave fame), has come out with its third release, Storm Engine. The Communal Grave reference alone might not do justice to the name because Saad’s previously been involved with stuff like Lashkar, Age of Peril etc. that go back a lot further than Communal Grave. Gathering from the little Storm Engine that I managed to preview on the internet, it is definitely gonna be worth your while if you’re into stuff like Animals as Leaders, Exivious, Continuo Renacer, Liquid Tension Experiment etc. The afore mentioned might not paint an accurate picture of the way things are with Reckoning Storm because it has a difficult sound to pin down but you know what I mean. :D Storm Engine embodies superb guitar playing and an awesome atmosphere. I still need to listen to the album. I will follow up with a review shortly but I must admit the Markhor’s been less than promising in terms of reviews since Hassan’s departure.

The album is up for free download on the Official Reckoning Storm Website.
